Jason Minnis is a Nehemiah homeowner and board member living in East New York. A native of South St. Petersburg, FL, Jason jokingly considers himself “a late arrival” of the mid-20th Century “Great Migration” that saw legions of African Americans leave the South for the North. His service to the Nehemiah board is the continuation of a rich Civil Rights legacy in his family. In his interview, Jason contextualizes the Nehemiah project within the larger history of Black Americans’ ongoing struggle for the full privileges of citizenship in the United States.
